Petra Doerfler

Petra Doerfler, Ambassador

My name is Petra Doerfler / Fitzpatrick. I am a single mom with two beautiful, loving, and smart girls (ages 10 and 13). Since 2020 I am homeschooling both of my children.
I was born and raised in Germany, where I completed a degree in Education. I was working as a Kindergarten Teacher in Germany for many years before my Family (my parents and sister) and I immigrated to Canada in 2001. We lived in Kelowna for quite a few years where I worked as a Daycare and Preschool Supervisor in a Catholic School. Once my children were born in 2009 and 2012, I stayed at home with them and taught Music Classes from home and took care of my friends' children.
In 2013 we moved to Calgary, and I continued to be a Stay at Home Mom but also branched out to be a part time teacher at the Calgary German Language School. As a board member I was also responsible for fundraising and planning events such as Easter and Mother’s Day. During my time at the Calgary German Language School, I started a German Children’s Choir, which I conducted and raised money for.
I started my own business “Deutsch-On-The-Go” in 2019/2020. I teach / tutor German for Ages up to 14 years old. Currently I am also working at a Nature School where I started to implement a bilingual (German/English) branch. I am recognized as an Early Childhood Development Supervisor in 3 different provinces - BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan. I joined AGEC (Association for German Education in Calgary) as a board member and was responsible for planning/ organizing the Children’s Carnival and a child friendly Octoberfest. I joined the parent's board of various schools where I was part of the Fundraising Committee and volunteered in my children’s classes as part of the Calgary Reads Program. For OPC, I offer a multi - cultural approach with amazing ideas for children and a global view on topics such as education. My values are aligned with OPC and I also believe that every child deserves a fair shake at education. I plan on involving my own children to participate in OPC’s programs and missions.  It is my conviction, that OPC will help them get exposed to community work.
