Maribel Abinales-Javier

Maribel Abinales-Javier, OPC Vice President 2024 - 2028

Hello, my name is Maribel Abinales-Javier. I have more than 30 years of professional experience in various capacities and settings. I earned my Master of Industrial Relations (MIR) from the University of the Philippines and continued upgrading at the University of Calgary, earned a Human Resources Management Diploma in 2011. My overseas experience included 8 years of work with the Netherland Development Organization in the capacity of Program Officer and 3 years as Project Evaluator with Luzon Secretariat for its Social Action program.

I worked at Action Dignity, Centre for Newcomers and at Bethany Care Society where various meaningful projects and programs were initiated, cultivated, and put in place.

I am fortunate to have been active in several community organizations such as the Babae Council of Filipina Canadian Women, the FRIENDS Filipinos Rising for Inclusion and Equity to nurture Democracy organization which I pride myself as a co-founder for both. I participated actively as Finance Officer with PERT - Philippine Emergency Response Taskforce in 2006. Other organizations I joined were the North of McKnight Communities Societies (NMCS), as the Vice-Chair of the FCWC - Filipino Canadian Women Multi-Purpose Cooperative, I also sat as the Advisory Council for the ICOI - Inclusive Communities for Older Immigrants, an amazing 7-year research project focused on seniors’ issues such as social isolation.

Now that I being retired, I am seizing the opportunities to be involved in bringing a brighter world to the underprivileged. I see myself as a connector and I’m happy to extend my support in all the activities and advocacies of OPC. I am confident that I can do this through Outreach Program Canada.
